Leaky windows, worn-out buildings, and rising energy bills are well-known challenges, often accompanied by stricter regulations and a construction budget constrained by the national spending cap. However, energy efficiency has long been a political priority in the Municipality of Halsnæs, and with financing from KommuneKredit, a series of ambitious projects is underway.
Old windows and doors are being replaced, insulation is being improved, energy-efficient lighting is being installed and ventilation systems are continuously upgraded. But the work is far from finished. Municipality of Halsnæs remains committed to reducing energy costs, improving indoor climate, and ensuring that buildings meet the standards of the future.
We have centralized our energy budgets and shifted our mindset to be more long-term rather than short-term. All of this helps us lead by example for the citizens and businesses in the municipality.

Meaningful improvements – beyond energy savings
It's not just about cutting energy expences. While saving kilowatts and reducing CO₂ emissions are important, the value also lies in the human benefits — ensuring better buildings for the municipality's citizens.
At the same time, it becomes clear that the municipality achieves savings when everyone takes part in the effort to create energy-efficient buildings.
When the users of the buildings i.e pedagogues, teachers, pupils and parents see and feel the difference, they also start thinking about sustainable solutions themselves. This transforms energy savings into collective efforts, and we are now seeing that it actually influences behavior.
