The castle takes center stage
Supported by financing from KommuneKredit and funding from foundations, an 1,800 m2 museum has now been built to supplement the main attraction, the castle. The building has been created with due respect for the landscape and the castle where visitors are allowed to step in the footprints of Harald
Bluetooth.
Borgring is the fifth ring fortress discovered in Denmark and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023.
The new museum, Borgring Viking Fortress, is designed with due respect for the historic castle, which remains the absolute diamond of the exhibition. The museum's location offers visitors a magnificent view of Harald Bluetooth's Viking landscape, while the large openings in the north-facing facade create a visual connection to the fortress.

Faith and Transformation
The Borgring Viking Fortress became Denmark’s fifth ring fortress and was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2023. With this recognition, the Borgring Viking Fortress gains a powerful voice in the resounding echo of Harald Bluetooth’s 1,000-year-old vision of a new direction for Denmark.
In the new museum, guests are invited back to a time when one faith replaced another. Harald Bluetooth’s decision to be baptised and embrace Christianity is central to the exhibition.
At the Borgring Viking Fortress, we strive to challenge our visitors with both accuracy and thoroughness — but also with curiosity. We encourage them to engage in discussions about history and to reflect on the time and world we live in today.
